It’s real. It’s raw. It’s what people want to watch.
The more players lie to each other and back-stab one another, the more the program becomes popular. The more it becomes the latest gossip in town. The more people watch it. And the more advertisers pay for commercial spots.
Bad content made good, because people like it.
With Survivor: Philippines, GMA 7 is not only selling airtime spots to advertisers. They are selling a culture our forefathers had protected for a long time. A culture of conservatism. A culture of modesty. A culture of shame and integrity. All these are sold to gain profits.
We were told liars go to hell and we should respect one another. Suddenly, we forget about all of it to the tune of two million pesos. And all that matters is ourselves.
Survivor: Philippines fosters selfishness. And we want to show the world how selfish and divided Filipinos can be.
